COLUMBIA — The Columbia Police Department announced Tuesday morning the promotion of Capt. Dianne Bernhard to deputy chief.
Bernhard was formerly the administrative support captain.
Sgt. Jill Schlude also received a promotion. Schlude was promoted to the rank of captain and will be in charge of the Operations Support Bureau. Currently, she is the head of the Public Relations Unit.
Bernhard has been working at the police department for 20 years. She started at the department as a patrol officer and worked her way up to her current rank as captain. She has held multiple positions in the department, including sergeant and patrol lieutenant.
Schlude began at the department in 2005 as a patrol officer and became public information officer in 2010. She was promoted to sergeant of the Public Relations Unit in 2011.
The promotions will be effective on Sunday.
