COLUMBIA — A vehicle fire shut down both northbound lanes of U.S. 63 south of Route H just before 8 a.m. Thursday, backing up traffic about a mile.

Nobody was injured in the fire, which was caused by electrical problems, Boone County Fire Protection District Chief Gale Blomenkamp said.

The fire was put out within five minutes, and one of the lanes was opened within 15 minutes. Both lanes were back open around 8:30 a.m., Blomenkamp said.
