St. Louis National Weather Service issues freeze warning for Saturday morning

Friday, October 26, 2012 | 3:58 p.m. CDT

COLUMBIA — Cold weather will hit Columbia this weekend.

A freeze warning will be in effect from 3 to 8 a.m. Saturday morning.

Though the weather was warm in the middle of the week, temperatures dropped from 83 degrees to 45 degrees on Thursday, according to the National Weather Service Forecast Office in St. Louis.

The weather will stay cold in the coming week. Subfreezing temperatures may occur as early as tonight and the evening temperatures throughout the week are expected to be in the thirties.

The weekend freeze could harm crops and fragile vegetation, and the National Weather Service recommends bringing in potted plants from outside or covering them.

Supervising editor is Jeanne Abbott.
