LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Vote for Janet Thompson for Northern District Boone County commissioner

Monday, October 29, 2012 | 6:00 a.m. CDT

I have known Janet Thompson for some 20-plus years, and she is truly an amazing person. She is a very active member of her faith group — Calvary Episcopal Church, Columbia. She has served on the altar guild, as an usher and on the vestry (and was senior warden). She also worked with Bill Barry to organize the Calvary Horse Show, which raised money for outreach — donating money to many civic causes. Thompson served as a delegate for the Diosesan Convention and other functions I am forgetting.

She is a very dedicated lawyer defending those on death row through the Legal Aid Program, which speaks highly of her work and professional ethics. She is highly intelligent earning a BA and MA in Spanish and a law degree from MU, plus advanced training in conflict resolution.

She lives on a farm and enjoys mucking about and carrying for and riding horses for show and recreation. We are fortunate to have a person running for northern commissioner who understands rural and urban life and is not only knowledgeable and a quick learner about county government but has high energy.

Russel Breyfogle is a Columbia resident.
