COLUMBIA — The Missouri wrestling team opened its season Saturday, when the annual Black and Gold Meet took over the Hearnes Center.

Junior Alan Waters — ranked No. 5 in the nation — appeared in only one match, but made it count. Last year's Big 12 champion took down redshirt freshman Boomer Boyd 13-3 in the 125-pound final, according to MUTigers.com.

Senior Nathan McCormick, who tallied a 16-7 record last season on the way to an NCAA Championships appearance, won the 133-pound final match with a pin.

Sophomore Drake Houdashelt also stood out, winning the 149-pound final after only one minute and 21 seconds.

The team's first match is Nov. 10 at Purdue, with the home opener Nov. 14 against Baker at the Hearnes Center.
