Get a ride to the polls Tuesday

COLUMBIA — Voters who need help getting to the polls Tuesday have plenty of places to turn. 

Local community groups, service organizations and political party chapters are offering free rides on Election Day. Columbia Transit and Paratransit are also extending operating hours.

Below is a list of groups offering election day transportation. Arrangements with Columbia Paratransit and Services for Independent Living must be made in advance on Monday.  

To find your polling place, visit the Boone County Clerk's website "Find My Information" page at http://showmeboone.com/clerk/search.asp. Polling locations will be open from 6 a.m. until 7 p.m. 

The Boone County Democratic Party will provide rides as needed for no charge. Volunteer drivers will be available from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. To request a ride, call headquarters at 875-1245. 

The Boone County Republican Party will provide rides as needed for no charge. Volunteer drivers will be available from 9 a.m. until at least 5 p.m. To request a ride, call headquarters at 443-3876.

Columbia Transit and Paratransit will extend operations until 8:45 p.m. A map of select polling places along bus routes is available from the city website. Normal fares apply. Please note that arrangements with Paratransit must be made by Monday at 5 p.m. To schedule, call 874-7290. 

Grass Roots Organizing will provide rides as needed for no charge to Columbia polling locations. Volunteer drivers will be available Tuesday from 8 a.m. until 6:30 p.m. To request a ride, call 443-4476. 

National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) will provide rides as needed for no charge to Columbia polling locations. Volunteer drivers will be available Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the polls close. To request a ride, call 449-4703 or 881-0163. 

Services for Independent Living is providing free rides to the polls for seniors and people with disabilities. This is an extension of their regular transportation services for existing consumers; you do not need to be an existing client to get a ride to the polls Tuesday. Services are available on a first-come, first-served basis and must be scheduled in advance by Monday at 5 p.m. To request a ride, call 874-1646 and ask for Tina.

Economy Cab Co. also is providing free rides to the polls. Contact the company at (573) 886-2233. Economy Cab advises voters to call as early in the day as possible. It is unable to accommodate power wheelchairs.
