Columbia Independent School sophomore Ruth Bondurant earned all-state honors in the Missouri State High School Activities Association Class 1 Girls Cross-Country competition held Nov. 3 in Jefferson City. Bondurant finished 22nd overall in the state meet with a time of 22:34:92. The top 25 runners earn the All-State athlete designation.

Bondurant’s performance now stands as the single best individual ranking in the competition in Columbia Independent School history.

The girls cross-country team also qualified for state competition based on outstanding performances by Bondurant and sophomore Rachel Briner during district competition the previous week. The team finished in 11th place overall in the state competition. The team consists of Ruth Bondurant, Rachel Briner, senior Julia Chavez, junior KelLeigh Bryant, sophomore Sarah Semlitsch and freshmen Davis Atkins and Zoya Khan. The team is coached by Kasye Beza.

MarkF: Thanks for highlighting Ruth's achievements.

Outside of football and basketball, there's far too little of this kind of public kudos for individual students.

Congratulation, Ruth!
