Beuna Alma Ridenhour Lansford had a heart for charity.
Mrs. Lansford died Sunday, Nov. 4, 2012. She was 90.
Mrs. Lansford was born in Osage County on Dec. 11, 1921, to Rainey Hugh and Cecil May (Harrison) Ridenhour.
On May 25, 1945, she married Raymond Lansford in Belle.
A teacher for 35 years, Mrs. Lansford spent her life outside the classroom working for charities and volunteering. She was club president of Altrusa, a charitable organization focused on bettering communities, volunteered at an abused women's shelter, helped create a juvenile home, worked at a diabetic camp and served as the hostess of the Ronald McDonald Family Room in Boone Hospital Center for three years.
Mrs. Lansford was also a local, state and national officer of the Philanthropic Educational Organization, an organization primarily devoted to promoting education opportunities for women.
In 1969, Mrs. Lansford was awarded the Outstanding Citizen Award from the Columbia Board of Realtors, and in 1985 she received the United Nations Peace Medal.
She enjoyed painting, knitting, reading and swimming.
Mrs. Lansford is survived by her husband, Raymond Lansford; her nephew, John Krieg and wife, Betsy, of St. Louis; and cousin, Gene Ridenhour of Columbia.
Her siblings Buel and Bulah died earlier.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Memorial Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
