JEFFERSON CITY — The Missouri secretary of state's office has stripped some of the usual information from its website to try to prevent it from crashing as people look for election results on Tuesday night.

Secretary of state spokeswoman Stacie Temple said Tuesday that the county-by-county vote totals from past elections have been temporarily removed from the website. People also were unable to search the site Tuesday to find information on businesses, as they normally can.

During Missouri's Aug. 7 primary, the secretary of state's website experienced numerous delays as people sought information on election results. The office attributed the problems to new computer software and heavy usage.

Temple says Secretary of State Robin Carnahan decided to pare back the website in an attempt to avoid similar problems during the general election.
