The Rock Bridge boys soccer team won its Class 3 state sectional game, defeating Jefferson City 1-0 on Tuesday night in Jefferson City.

Bruins senior midfielder Eli Sherman scored the game's only goal nine minutes into the second half.

"They were a great team but our guys played hard and came through in the end," Rock Bridge coach Alex Nichols said. "We got over our first-half jitters and played well in the second half."

Rock Bridge (20-7-1) advances to the quarterfinals of the state tournament where it will host Kickapoo (22-3) on Saturday. Game time has yet to be determined.

Nichols said that Kickapoo is the fifth-best team in the state and that Rock Bridge needs to work harder if the team wants to win by more than a goal.
