COLUMBIA — A man tried to kidnap a 9-year-old girl Sunday morning, Columbia Police Department spokeswoman Latisha Stroer said.

Officers responded to a call from the 1600 block of Hanover Boulevard at 8:25 a.m. Their investigation found that a man wearing a mask, jacket and blue jeans had grabbed the girl on her left arm while she and a 4-year-old child were playing outside. The girl freed herself and ran into the house. Police haven't found a suspect, Stroer said.

Stroer said officers with the Missouri State Highway Patrol K-9 Unit came to the scene with dogs to establish a scent track but were not successful.

Police ask anyone with information to contact the Columbia Police Department or Crime Stoppers at 875-8477 to remain anonymous.
