CENTRALIA — Workers repaired a water main rupture in Centralia Sunday night, but officials have issued a boil order for the city.

City Administrator Lynn Behrns has advised Centralia residents to boil their water for at least 10 minutes before drinking it, Assistant Chief Robert Bias said. The order is in effect for 48 hours, he said.

"It's more of a precautionary measure than anything else," Bias said. The city had not detected any signs of contamination, he said.

The water main break, which occurred Sunday morning around the crossing of Singleton Street and the COLT railroad, left the entire city without water.

Bias said his home was not affected by the break because he lives outside the city. Workers at the police station were drinking bottled water Monday morning, he said.
