COLUMBIA— Around 1:30 p.m. Columbia Public Schools reported a lockdown for the Center for Responsive Education, Rock Bridge Elementary, Rock Bridge High School, Gentry Middle School and the Columbia Area Career Center as a precautionary response to a report of shots fired in the area.

The lockdown was lifted quickly following the Columbia Police Department's investigation that determined the noise was fireworks and not gunshots, said Columbia Public Schools spokeswoman Michelle Baumstark.
