LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Concerns about development near Rock Bridge State Park

I am concerned about the dense urban development that is being planned next to Rock Bridge State Park. They are requesting zoning changes to include 11 duplexes and 65 single-family homes off Route K.

They are planning three houses per acre and only two entrances to maximize the density. The plan meets the low urban standard for the City of Columbia. The only green areas are the required drainage and water detention basin.

I don’t think a dense urban development should be next to Rock Bridge State Park. I would be in favor of single-family development that had normal standards for roads and entrances and larger lot size and green areas. I am very worried about the density and all the aspects that will bring.

Columbia and Boone County, this is what will be next to your state park. Is this what you want?
