Godfrey 'Kirk' L. Hickam, Dec. 4, 1928 — Nov. 22, 2012, of Columbia

Godfrey L. “Kirk” Hickam, 83, of Columbia, passed away November 22, 2012. He was born December 4, 1928, in Columbia to Godfrey and Ruth (Valentine) Hickam. He graduated in the class of 1945 from Hickman High School. On August 6, 1949, he married Joy Again, and she survives. They were married 63 years.

Kirk was a home builder and land developer for 39 years.  He enjoyed the outdoors, camping and fishing, and he spent many days and weekends at their cabin at Wildwood Resort. Kirk had a passion for pool at the Senior Center and rebuilding old lawn mowers. He also loved country music.

In addition to his loving wife, Joy, Kirk is survived by: a son, William “Bill” Hickam (Beth) of Centennial, Co.; a daughter, Janice DeRosier of Columbia; three granddaughters, Joanna and Ivy Hickam and Sarah DeRosier; a brother, John; three sisters, Marie, Barbara and Linda.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Billy Joe and Don, and sister, Mary.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m.  Monday, November 26, 2012;  funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, November 27, 2012, both at Memorial Funeral Home.

Memorial donations are suggested to the Columbia Senior Center or to the Alzheimer’s Association.
