Rock Bridge defeats Hickman in season-opening wrestling meet

Wednesday, November 28, 2012 | 12:00 a.m. CST

The Rock Bridge wrestling team defeated Hickman 37-36 in a three-way meet Tuesday night at Kirksville.

Rock Bridge coach Travis Craig said that with the Kewpies leading by five points entering the final match, the dual came down to the final pair of wrestlers.

Craig said sophomore Joe Boettcher won the heavyweight division by a pin to give the Bruins six points and the victory.

Both teams lost their duals against Kirksville, which is the defending Class 2 state champion.

“First match of the season,” Craig said by phone. “It was good to see how we compare against other competition."
