This article is a part of ArtTalk, a Missourian project inviting people from the arts community to tell us what’s cooking around town. To submit something you're excited about and open the eyes of the community to local art, fill out the form at the bottom of this story. Find past submissions here.

Here's the latest in the series, written by Craig Rooney, pictured below. Rooney is on the Missouri Contemporary Ballet's board of directors.

Q: What's your connection to Columbia's art scene?

A: When I moved to Columbia from Kansas City in 2008, I was thrilled to find out that we had a local, professional ballet company. I started attending the performances of Missouri Contemporary Ballet and was blown away by their talent and the edgy, exciting vision of their artistic/executive director, Karen Grundy. I've gone to all of MCB's performances since, and recently joined the Board of Directors in August of this year. My appreciation for dance only continues to grow the more I learn about this amazing ballet company.

Q: What artistic project or product are you excited about?

A: I am excited about Missouri Contemporary Ballet's upcoming Choreographic Installation this Thursday, November 29. This in-studio performance will feature the works of the dancers of MCB. Our artists are not only dancers, they are choreographers too! This is a wonderful opportunity to see the creativity and vision of each of the amazing individuals who perform in your very own local and professional ballet company.

Q: Why are you excited, and why might other people be interested?

A: Ballet exhibits the beauty of bodies in motion and does not require a sophisticated knowledge of dance in order to take something meaningful away from the experience of watching it. Choreographic Installations are great way to get to know the company in a smaller, less formal setting for those who have never attended a performance. For those who regularly attend our performances, they're a unique way to deepen your appreciation for your favorite dancers by seeing their own choreography.

Q: Is there an event attached to the project?

A: Choreographic Installation

Thursday, November 29

Showings at 5:30pm and 6:30pm

MCB Studios, 100 Orr Street, Suite 102, Columbia, MO 65201.

Tickets will be $10 at the door.
