SHOW ME THE RECORDS: Look up registered sex offenders in Boone County

Monday, March 25, 2013 | 6:00 a.m. CDT

COLUMBIA — Most government records are open to the public at no charge. These records give citizens the opportunity to find out what’s going on, how their elected officials are spending tax dollars, how the various departments within a governmental entity work and other valuable information needed to make strong decisions for the future. Each week, the Missourian highlights a government record that is available to the public. For a complete list of Show Me the Records, go to http://columbiamissourian.com/records.

The records: Boone County registered sex offenders.

Why you’d want the records: You can see whether there is a sex offender living near you or near a place you frequently spend time. This is especially important for parents, who want their children to be safe.

Where you get the records: Go to http://www.showmeboone.com/sheriff/offenders/registeredoffenders.asp to view a list of registered sex offenders living in Boone County. The list can be sorted by name or address. There is also an option to view a countywide offenders map.

How much will it cost: The information is free.
