COLUMBIA — The Rock Bridge boys basketball team suffered its first loss of the season Saturday night, 58-42 against Christian Brothers College High School at Columbia College. The game was a part of the Norm Stewart Classic.
Jordan Barnett led the Cadets with 17 points, including a fourth-quarter dunk that had fans alerting SportsCenter.
Rock Bridge point guard Nick Norton also recorded 17 points. No forward had more than two points for the Bruins.
"We got hardly anything inside," coach Jim Scanlon said. "It's hard to play when your guards have to do all the work."
CBC held the lead for the majority of the first half and brought a 11-point advantage into the third quarter.
The Cadets stretched the lead to 15, but the Bruins were able to get back within 8 in the fourth quarter.
"(We were) playing a pretty talented team," Scanlon said. "We clawed back in it."
Rock Bridge never got any closer, however, and the Cadets cruised to easy victory.
The Bruins are still adjusting after losing eight players from their 2011-2012 team that reached the state semifinals.
"(It was) just us being new," Scanlon said. "We're learning. They're good guys. They work."
The Cadets dominated the game above the room, racking up a handful of dunks and four blocks.
"How many teams gonna beat them, if any, in the state of Missouri?" Scanlon said. "The bar is raised and we have to try to get there."
The game was the Bruins' second in two days, following a 58-44 win over East High School. Rock Bridge plays Southwest High School on Tuesday at home. Tipoff is at 6 p.m.
"We've got a game Tuesday, but we can't worry about them," Scanlon said. "We've got to worry about ourselves first."
