J. Barton Boyle was a loyal supporter of his community

COLUMBIA — J. Barton Boyle of Columbia died Sunday, Dec. 2, 2012. He was 79.

Mr. Boyle was born on Jan. 15, 1933, to Kenneth T. and Audrey Sprake Boyle, in St. Joseph. He graduated from St. Joseph Central High School in 1955, after which he received a football scholarship to study at MU. 

Mr. Boyle graduated with a bachelor of science in business administration from MU and with a master's degree in hospital administration from the University of Chicago. Mr. Boyle had a long career, including positions as the associate director of the MU Health Care, administrator of the Ohio State University Hospitals and University of Oklahoma Hospital.

Married for 57 years to Charmian Ficklin Boyle, and the father of two sons, Mr. Boyle was a loving family man. When he was not visiting with family or friends, Mr. Boyle enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf and travel.

Mr. Boyle cared for his community over many years, serving as president of the Woodrail on the Green Homeowners Association, member of the University Club Executive Board and the Missouri University Retiree Association.

He is survived by his wife and their two sons, David Carlton Boyle of Columbia, and Jeffrey Stephen Boyle of Smithville; brother, Kenneth Carlton Boyle and wife, Judy, of McAllen, Texas; and granddaughter, Brooke Kaylin Boyle.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Missouri United Methodist Church, 204 S. Ninth St., with a reception that will follow in the CLC at the church.
