Press powers Hickman girls basketball victory

The Hickman girls basketball team advanced to the championship of the Blue Springs South tournament with a 43-40 victory Wednesday night over the host Jaguars.
The Kewpies trailed by five points with 4:34 to play when they started to press on defense. With the help of some key free-throw shooting from 6-foot-1 sophomore center Ellie Johnson, Hickman led by five points with 45 seconds to go.
Emily Miller led the Kewpies with 20 points, and Jade Holly had nine points. Johnson totaled six points, all coming in the game's final minutes.
Hickman is set to play Blue Springs for the tournament title at 5:15 p.m. Saturday.
