Dr. Frank Robbins Dexheimer, 85, of Columbia passed away Tuesday, November 27, 2012 at The Neighborhoods @ Tiger Place.
Memorial services will be held at 1 P.M. Sunday, December 9 at Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 12 pm until the time of service.
Frank R. Dexheimer was born June 6, 1927, in Columbia, MO to Dr. Frank E. and Louise Robbins Dexheimer, and they preceded him in death.
Frank R. Dexheimer graduated as Class President from Hickman High School in 1945. He joined the Navy under the V 12 Navy College Training Program in 1945. He proudly served his country in WWII from 1945-1947 and in the Korean War from 1954-1956. He attended the University of Missouri and the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, where he studied general surgery and received his medical degree in 1952. After finishing medical school, Dr. Dexheimer returned to Columbia, where one of his first surgical procedures involved the removal of a knife that had passed through a man’s heart. He continued surgical procedures until his retirement in the early 90’s.
Dr. Dexheimer’s interests included hunting, classical music, and Corvettes. He always enjoyed the time he spent with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his two grandchildren, Hunter Dexheimer of Baton Rouge, LA, and Jasmine Dexheimer Linder of Portland, OR.
He was preceded in death by his son, Kurt Robbins Dexheimer and his brother, George W. Dexheimer.
