UPDATE: Pedestrian killed after being struck by vehicle on U.S. 40

COLUMBIA — A pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle on U.S. 40 around 7 p.m. Thursday, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Sgt. Paul Reinsch with the Highway Patrol said the pedestrian, Charles Streeter, was 44 and from Springfield, Ore. The victim had wandered into the road and was in the middle of U.S. 40 when driver Krystal Doan's car struck him, Reinsch said. 

Doan, who was wearing her seat belt, was not injured and no charges have been filed against her.

Streeter's father has been notified.

The accident is the first Troop F fatality of December according to the online traffic crash report.
