JEFFERSON CITY — Gov. Jay Nixon has promoted an associate circuit judge to a vacant circuit judgeship in St. Louis.

Nixon appointed Associate Circuit Judge Elizabeth Byrne Hogan to serve as a circuit judge in the 22nd Judicial Circuit, which covers the city of St. Louis. She replaces Judge Lisa Van Amburg, who was appointed to the Missouri Court of Appeals' Eastern District.

Hogan has served as an associate judge since 2005. She previously worked as an attorney in private practice, as a prosecutor in St. Louis and Jefferson City and as the supervising attorney for Voices for Children, an advocacy group for abused and neglected children.
