Loretta Holt, 100, remembered as hardworking, devoted to family

COLUMBIA — Loretta Holt enjoyed spending time with family, crocheting and playing bingo.

Mrs. Holt of Columbia died Monday, Dec. 17, 2012, at Boone Hospital Center. She was 100.

"She was a sweet, good-hearted woman," her daughter, Shirley Harrison, said. "She always had a smile on her face even when she was in pain."

Mrs. Holt's son, Kenneth C. Sapp, also remembered his mother as hardworking and devoted to her family.

"She comes from a big family, and she loved her family," Sapp said.

Her granddaughter Rhonda Knowles said Mrs. Holt loved her grandchildren.

"She is the best grandmother you can ask for. She is like my second mom to me," Knowles said. "She was just a beautiful person. She loved people. She loved life."

Mrs. Holt was born July 18, 1912, in Huntsdale to Robert H. and Lucy (Frey) Calvin. She went to Huntsdale School.

Mrs. Holt married John H. Sapp in 1929. The couple had two children, Kenneth C. Sapp and Shirley Harrison. John Sapp died when Kenneth was 14 and Shirley was 9.

Mrs. Holt married J.O. Holt in 1952, and he also died earlier. She lived her entire life in Boone County.

Mrs. Holt is survived by her son, Kenneth C. Sapp, and his wife, Charlene, of Ashland; her daughter, Shirley Harrison, and her husband, Glenn, of Columbia; four grandchildren, Kenneth Lee Sapp, Merry Turner, Cindy Blakemore and Rhonda Knowles; 12 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

Her husbands, four brothers and four sisters died earlier.

Visitation will be from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday at Parker Funeral Service, 22 N. Tenth St. Service will follow at 1 p.m. at the same location. Burial will then follow at 1:30 p.m. in Memorial Park Cemetery, 1217 Business Loop 70 W.
