COLUMBIA — A Boone County grand jury has indicted Anthony Graves, the 19-year-old charged in March with murder in the death of 17-year-old Douglass High School student DeAudre Johnson.

The indictment, handed down Friday, provides prosecutors with an alternative second-degree murder charge, felony murder, by adding an unlawful use of a weapon charge.

At his arraignment on Monday, Graves pleaded not guilty. His next hearing was scheduled for Jan. 22.

On March 12, Graves allegedly shot toward Johnson from a white 1998 Buick Skylark. Johnson died the following morning in the hospital from a bullet wound to the upper body. Police do not believe Johnson was the intended target.

Initial charges against Graves were filed in March.

Graves remained in the Boone County Jail on Wednesday afternoon. Bond was set at $1 million.
