COLUMBIA — Benjamin S. Lieteau, 27, of Columbia died in a car crash early Sunday morning on St. Charles Road.

Lieteau was traveling west on St. Charles Road at Dorado Drive when he lost control of his vehicle and struck a creek embankment off the left side of the road, according to Columbia Police Department news release.

Lieteau, who was not wearing a seat belt, was partially ejected during the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel, the release said.

Police believe excessive speed and alcohol intoxication contributed to the crash and that road conditions were not a factor.
