Mildred Rae Pifer, 89, retired nurse

COLUMBIA — Mildred Rae Pifer of Columbia died Thursday, Dec. 27, 2012. She was 89.

She was born in 1923 in Houlton, Maine. 

Mrs. Pifer, a registered nurse, lived in Washington and Southern California before moving to Columbia in 1991.

She attended Emmanuel Baptist Church. 

Mrs. Pifer is survived by two daughters, Gloria Pifer and Judy Lee (Robert) of Columbia; a son, James W. Pifer of Palm Springs, Calif.; a brother, Clifford McQuarie, of Houlton, Maine; and two granddaughters, Crystal Anderson (Stephen) of St. Ann and Kimberly Pectol (Eric) of Columbia.

Her husband, James W. Pifer, died earlier in 1990.

Friends and family will gather from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 30, at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 3100 Pioneer Drive. 

Memorial contributions can be made to the Central Missouri Humane Society.
