Lorna Grace Navarrez Perez, daughter of the late Carmen Estrada Navarrez and Sergio Navarrez, joined her creator at her residence in Columbia, Missouri, on the morning of December 29, 2012, at the age of 61. She was born in Ozamiz City, Philippines, on April 15, 1951. She was united in marriage to Eli Perez on August 30, 1976. In 1979 she moved to Columbia.
She is survived by her husband and 3 children: Carl Perez and John Paul married to Angela Perez, daughter Loreli married to Eric Wilson, two grand-children Lincoln and Arden Wilson and stepmother Sixta Navarrez.
She was the eldest of 9 siblings: Sergio Navarrez Jr., Carmen Elliot, Jocelyn Patterson, Arlene Faith Stepp, Sergio Navarrez III, Paul Navarrez, Joji Navarrez, and Pyke Navarrez.
As a foster parent for more than 20 years, Lorna dedicated her time to the lost youth in the Boone County area, providing them with love and a family. She was also active in the Filipino-American community, being a founding member of the Filipino-American Cultural Society of Mid-Missouri.
A devout Catholic, Lorna was an involved member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Her faith led Lorna to pioneer the annual MidMissouri Sinulog celebration, a cultural tradition rooted in her Filipino heritage honoring the baby Jesus.
A caring sister, beloved mother, and cherished wife, Lorna will be fondly remembered for her unselfish love, generosity, and compassion.
To honor Lorna’s memory, donations can be made to the Fil-Am Sinulog fund. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00am Saturday January 5th at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 903 Bernadette Drive. Visitation will be from 6-8:30pm Friday January 4th at Memorial Funeral Home.
