COLUMBIA— Steve Renne of Columbia began his tenure as the co-chairman of the Family and Community Trust on Tuesday.

The board guides a network of 20 nonprofits across Missouri that serve children and families who struggle with problems such as homelessness, drug abuse and teen pregnancy. The organization has been around for more than 19 years.

Renne was elected as the private-sector co-chairman after the board's meeting in December. He will serve as the chairman along with Alan Freeman, who has been nominated as the director of the Department of Social Services by Gov. Nixon.

Renee follows Lowell Kruse, senior fellow Heartland Foundation and former CEO of Heartland Health. Kruse has held the position for the past seven years.
