Police arrest man following discovery of marijuana in Eighth Street apartment

COLUMBIA — Police arrested Brenner Dawson, 32, after seeing marijuana plants in an apartment at 314 N. Eighth Street on Friday.

According to a news release from the Columbia Police Department:

Officers smelled the odor of marijuana inside the apartment when Dawson opened the door. They then saw marijuana plants in the living room.

While arresting Dawson, he asked officers to turn off his stove. When they then entered the residence, officers noticed more marijuana plants. 

After obtaining a search warrant, officers discovered in the apartment more than 70 marijuana plants, equipment to grow and harvest the plants, and psychedelic mushrooms. 

Dawson was charged with felony possession of a controlled substance and distribution of a controlled substance.
