I was living in the city at the time some of its schools were starting to desegregate. I was a resource person for a PTA group that was having some student disciplinary problems. In the middle of a heated meeting, someone brought up the subject of guns in school, and within a matter of minutes, the conversation deteriorated into a discussion about the possibility of parents taking up arms to protect the student body.
