Tuesday, January 15, 2013 | 11:12 a.m. CST

COLUMBIA — A man was assaulted and robbed in the Sam's Club parking lot at 101 Conley Road on Monday night.

The victim was waiting in a female friend's car alone while she was shopping in Sam's Club, according to a release from the Columbia Police Department.

While the victim was sitting in the vehicle, a man approached and asked where items in the car came from. He then punched the victim in the face and took the victim's wallet after the assault, the release said.

A witness in the Sam's Club parking lot called the police at 6:43 p.m., Columbia Police spokeswoman Latisha Stroer said.

The police made contact with the victim after he ran to the Dollar Tree, next to Sam's Club.

The suspect is identified as Ryan Ellingboe, the female friend's boyfriend.

A warrant request for Ellingboe was submitted to the Boone County Prosecutor's Office for robbery in the second degree, and the police department has not yet made contact with him, Stroer said.
