Alice Hinson put her heart and soul into everything she did

COLUMBIA — Alice Hinson was an award-winning quilter. She had lovely flower and vegetable gardens and beautiful handwriting. She put her heart and soul into everything she did.

Alice Ray Hinson died Friday, Jan. 18, 2013. She was 91.

Mrs. Hinson was born June 6, 1921 in Audrain County.  She graduated from Wellsville High School where she was awarded the Best Girl Citizen Award of her graduating class.

Some of her favorite things were quilting, gardening, collecting antiques and spending time with family and friends.

She was active in Wilkes Boulevard United Methodist Church for more than 60 years. She was also a member of United Methodist Womens', Ruth Circle, Boone Slick Trails Quilter's Guild, Missouri State Quilting Guild and the American Quilter's Society

Mrs. Hinson was employed as an administrative assistant at MU for most of her life.

She is survived by one brother, Kenneth Ray; a brother-in-law, Florence Ackmann; three sister-in-laws, Doris Ray (Lampee), Teddy Ray (Rippeto Wayland) and Regina Ray (Mitchell); children Linda Austin William, Pamela Luke, Jerald Hinson, William Hinson and Youmeng Chroek; grandchildren Michael Austin, Richard Austin, Julie Luke FitzSimmons, Amy Luke Busker and Sengchhi Chroek; as well as many great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Her husband of 57 years, Estil Hinson; stepmother Leta Ray (Goodrich Wainscott); two sisters, Helen Ray and Elizabeth Ackmann (Ray); two brothers, Clarence Ray and Billy Ray; and a son-in-law, William Austin, died earlier.

Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Memorial Funeral Home, 1217 Business Loop 70 W. Services will follow at 11 a.m. Burial services will be follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
