The Tolton Catholic boys basketball team lost its opening-round matchup Tuesday evening in the Southern Boone Classic in Ashland, falling 76-55 to the top-seeded Fatima Comets.
The Trailblazers (8-9) kept it close early despite Fatima guard Patrick Schneiders’ six first-quarter three-pointers and trailed by five at halftime, 38-33. Tolton was within striking distance until midway through the fourth quarter when the Comets made a late run to put the game out of reach.
Schneiders, a two-time Class 3 All-State selection, led the way with 36 points for Fatima, the No. 6 team in the state. The Trailblazers' Spencer Hockman led the team with 18 points, followed by Josh Boyer, who tallied 17.
No. 8 seed Tolton Catholic returns to action in the second round of the tournament at 9 p.m. Thursday against Linn in Ashland.
