VIDEO: MU police anounce killer in 2005 homicide

MU Police Captain Brian Weimer talks about the solving of the 2005 homicide of 72-year old MU researcher Jeong Im. The man police say is responsible for the homicide — Timothy Aaron Hoag — committed suicide August 2012.

COLUMBIA — MU Police Chief Jack Watring and Capt. Brian Weimer announced Wednesday that the 2005 homicide of an MU researcher had been solved.

Jeong Im, a 72-year-old researcher in MU's Department of Microbiology and Immunology, was found dead in  the trunk of his Honda Accord in the Maryland Avenue parking garage on Jan. 7, 2005.

New information led police to link Timothy Aaron Hoag to the unsolved case. Hoag jumped to his death from the parking garage at Fifth and Walnut streets on Aug. 9, 2012

Weimer said the case remains open, though investigators believe Hoag was solely responsible for the slaying.
