Fire damages home on Hickory Street

COLUMBIA — A fire damaged a home in east Columbia on Wednesday night.

Firefighters found smoke coming from the attic when they arrived on the scene at 1404 Hickory St., Columbia Fire Capt. Jan McCrary said.

To extinguish the fire, firefighters removed the ceiling above the home's living room, Mcrary said. No one was injured.

Damage was primarily confined to the house's attic and living room ceiling, McCrary said. Fire investigators suspect the cause of the fire may have been electrical, but an investigation is ongoing.

The home had working smoke alarms, that alerted the occupants to the fire, according to a Columbia Fire Department news release. Damage is estimated at $5,000.
