Columbia College women's basketball wins 10th straight AMC game

COLUMBIA — Despite shooting just 34 percent from the field, the Columbia College women's basketball team beat Williams Baptist (Ark.) College 59-55 on Thursday night at the Arena of Southwell Complex.

The Cougars, No. 18 in the NAIA rankings, trailed 28-24 at halftime, but they opened the second half on an 11-2 run to win their 13th straight game. 

The win improves Columbia College to 17-5 overall and leaves the Cougars at 10-0 in American Midwest Conference play. The Cougars also stayed one win ahead of Lyon College (Ark.) for the top spot in the AMC. 

Senior Lily Abreu led Columbia College with 23 points coming off the bench.

The loss drops Williams Baptist to 12-10 and 5-5 in AMC play.

Columbia College is set to play its next game at 2 p.m. Saturday at Park (Mo.) University.
