COLUMBIA — Loretta Jean Hegstad was a 19-year survivor of breast cancer and actively participated in cancer and Alzheimer's charities.
Ms. Hegstad died Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013. She was 57.
She was born Aug. 10, 1955 in Jamestown, N.D.
She graduated from Hickman High School in Columbia in 1973 and went on to receive her master’s degree from the University of Missouri in 1978.
Ms. Hegstad retired from Lockheed Martin Space Missile in Sunnyvale, Calif. in 2011 and moved back to Columbia in 2012.
Ms. Hegstad is survived by her two daughters; Amanda Hyer and Allison Hyer; her parents, Margaret and Kenneth Hegstad; her brothers, Donald Hegstad and his wife, Geri, and Christopher Hegstad; her nieces and nephews, Jennifer Herd, Brian Hegstad, John Hegstad, Susan Helming and Beth Nelson.
Services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday at New Providence Baptist Church, 4641 N. Route E.
Memorial contributions can be made in Ms. Hegstad's name to the Alzheimer’s Association and the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. She an active participant in both charities.
