Missouri softball wins twice at the UC-Santa Barbara Gaucho Classic

The Missouri softball team continued its perfect start to the season with two victories at the UC-Santa Barbara Gaucho Classic on Saturday in Santa Barbara, Calif.

The Tigers won 11-3 in five innings against Fresno State in their first game of the day.

Starting pitcher Nicole Hudson pitched a complete game and helped her cause at the plate with her fourth home run of the season to lead off the top of the second inning.

"She has been like Babe Ruth in the last four games," Missouri coach Ehren Earleywine said. "I'm glad to see her off to a good start."

Angela Randazzo, Mackenzie Sykes and Carlie Rose also hit home runs for the Tigers against the Bulldogs.

In the second game, the Tigers defeated San Diego 5-0. Erwin Bailey pitched a complete game two-hitter and struck out four Toreros.

Hudson hit her second home run of the afternoon and fifth of season to open the scoring in the fourth inning. The Tigers scored four runs in the fifth inning. Kelsi Jones started the fifth inning with a home run. Emily Crane and Jenna Martson added RBIs.

Earleywine is happy with the early success, especially at the plate.

"Offensively, we are ahead of the curve," Earleywine said.

The Tigers (4-0) conclude the tournament against host UC-Santa Barbara on Sunday. Chelsea Thomas will get the start.
