George Hayes, 88, of Rocheport, MO, passed away February 16, 2013.
He was born on November 19, 1924, in Huntington Park, CA, to James and Amelia McCall Hayes.
Uncle was in the Navy from 1943 to 1946, He played professional baseball with the House of David before the war and Amarillo Gold Sox, a triple A team in 1952 along with a few other teams. Uncle got to play against Satchel Paige, Mickey Mantle, and many more great baseball players in history. Uncle passed his love of baseball on to his nephew and his great-great-nephew. When uncle had any spare time you could find him at the racetrack where he watched some of the greatest racehorses in history run. His love for the horses was passed on to his great niece and his great-great-niece.
George is survived by his brother, Jim Hayes Sr. of Rocheport, MO; nephew, Jim Hayes (Karyn) of Rocheport, MO; great-niece: Tracy Johnmeyer (Justin) of Fayette, MO; great-great-niece, Amee Riley of Boonville, MO, and great-great-nephew, Jerrod Riley of Fayette, MO.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his great-nephew.
There will be a graveside service at 1 p.m. Wednesday, February 20, 2013, in Memorial Park Cemetery in Columbia, MO.
