COLUMBIA — The Missouri baseball team lost its most veteran infielder to injury in Friday's season opener, depleting an infield made up primarily of junior college transfers.

Dillon Everett, who started 60 of 61 games for Missouri in 2012, injured his right hand Friday during his second at-bat against No. 23 Southern Mississippi.

The right-handed junior tweeted Monday that he was "goin in for X-rays on the hand." A team spokesperson said Everett is day-to-day and that he will not play this weekend when Missouri travels to Memphis for a three-game series.

Everett, who was the Tigers' starting second baseman in 2012, was slotted in at shortstop for the 2013 opener because of an injury to projected starter Shane Segovia. Freshman Josh Lester replaced Everett for the remainder of Friday's game, as well as Saturday and Sunday.
