COLUMBIA — The winter storm warning for Missouri was expanded east and south early Monday afternoon to include Callaway and Cole counties.

The National Weather Service in St. Louis, in an updated forecast discussion issued at 12:01 p.m. Monday, said one of its computer models showed a slight southerly shift in the storm track that would result in higher snow totals in parts of central Missouri.

An updated winter storm warning for Columbia, posted at 11:57 a.m. Monday, called for snow to begin late this evening, become heavy at times after midnight and continue through Tuesday morning before tapering off late Tuesday afternoon.

Accumulations of 6 to 10 inches were forecast for Columbia, and the latest warning product for Jefferson City called for 3 to 7 inches.

The winter storm warning is for 6 p.m. Monday to 6 p.m. Tuesday.
