COLUMBIA — Mediacom faced an extended Internet outage because of cut fiber lines in mid-Missouri on Tuesday.
Monday night's ice storm cut through fiber lines that the Internet provider shares with a partner company causing Internet failures for both providers' customers. The incident occurred about 10:20 p.m. near Camdenton.
Phyllis Peters, Mediacom communications director, said repairs to the cut fiber lines would start around 3 p.m. Tuesday. Service was restored around 3:30 p.m., Peters said.
Peters said it was a major struggle for workers to make repairs because of the weather.
Customers are also facing cable issues because of fallen branches, but Bryan Gann, Mediacom's area operations director, said these should be cleared up within the next few hours.
Because the providing partner is responsible for the compromised fiber lines, Mediacom officials have turned their attention to addressing issues with damaged cable lines.
“We are focusing today on anyone who has lost phone service,” Gann said. “There are also several lines that are dangerously low that we are looking into.”
