Janette Hinshaw Emerson was active at church, taught Sunday school

COLUMBIA — Janette Toy Hinshaw Emerson taught Sunday school for many years at Columbia First Assembly of God and served as a ladies dorm supervisor for Rocky Mountain Bible College in Denver, Colo.

Janette Toy Hinshaw Emerson of Columbia died Saturday, March 9, 2013. She was 86.

She was born on Sept. 9, 1926 in Carlisle, Ky., to Joe and Elizabeth Chandler Toy. 

She was married to James Paul Hinshaw on Feb. 7, 1945 in Leavenworth, Kan. They were married for 29 years. James Hinshaw died earlier.

She re-married to Donald E. Emerson on June 13, 1981 in Casper, Wyo. They were married for 24 years. Donald Emerson also died earlier.

Mrs. Toy Hinshaw Emerson is survived by her two daughters, Connie Lou Cook, and her husband Darrell, of Columbia, and Patricia Susan Wells, and her husband Mervin, of Clark; two step-daughters Donna Behounek and Barbara Garman; sister Hazel Russell; brother Paul Toy; five grandchildren, Tracy Cook, and his wife Joy, Tina Arends, and her husband Darrin, Kim Rose, and her husband Paul, Shannon Williams, and her husband Joey, and Chad Wells; four step-grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; several step-great-grandchildren; and one great-great granddaughter.

In addition to her parents and husbands, her brothers Sherman, Faris and Calvin Toy preceded her in death.

A visitation will be held at 5 p.m. Monday at Columbia First Assembly of God, 1100 N. Seventh St. A service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Columbia First Assembly of God, officiated by her grandson, the Rev. Tracy Cook, and grandson-in-law, the Rev. Paul Rose.
