Mike Griggs named new director of Parks and Recreation Department

COLUMBIA — The Columbia Parks and Recreation Department will have a new director beginning Friday.

Mike Griggs, the assistant director, will begin serving in the position following current director Mike Hood’s retirement Thursday. Griggs has been involved with the department for 26 years.

According to a news release, Griggs has served as an adjunct instructor of parks management at MU's School of Natural Resources and is a Certified Park and Recreation Professional by the National Recreation and Park Association. Griggs was chosen out of more than 100 applicants for the position.
