Tuesday, March 19, 2013 | 7:31 p.m. CDT

COLUMBIA — Chris Sayers will serve as the next Columbia Independent School Lower School director.

She will succeed Beth Gardner, who is moving to Florida.

Sayers has taught kindergarten at Columbia Independent School for more than five years, and at independent schools in Massachusetts for another 12, according to a news release from the school.

The lower school, which includes junior kindergarten through fifth grade, has approximately 230 children enrolled, according to the release.

"The whole CIS community is sorry to see Beth leave, but we are certain that Chris Sayers will lead the lower school with the same energy, warmth and professional skills that Beth has brought to the position," Head of School William Rowe said in the release.

Sayers earned her bachelor's degree at Mount Holyoke College in Massachusetts and her master's degree in education at the University of Massachusetts. She lives in Columbia with her husband Stephen and two children, Dylan and Kaylee, who attend third and sixth grade at Columbia Independent School, respectively.
