Seven of Missouri’s 10 wrestlers won their first-round matches of the 2013 NCAA Wrestling Championship on Thursday in Des Moines, Iowa.

Only Minnesota, with eight, has more wrestlers remaining in the championship bracket, while Oklahoma State and Iowa also have seven remaining.

Top-seeded junior Alan Waters got the Tigers off to a good start in the 125-pound weight class with a decisive 5-2 victory over Minnesota’s David Thorn.

Sophomore Drake Houdashelt and junior Kyle Bradley followed up Waters’ performance with two upsets at 149 and 157 pounds, respectively, becoming the third and fourth Tigers to advance.

Junior Zach Toal and seniors Mike Larson and Dom Bradley also won.

The Tigers are scheduled to compete in the second round of the tournament Thursday evening at the Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines.
