COLUMBIA — Christine Weaver of Greenville, N.C., died Friday, March 22, 2013. She was 55.

She was born Nov. 12, 1957,, in St. Louis to Columbia residents James and Nancy Weaver.

Ms. Weaver received a bachelor's degree in horticulture from MU and a master's degree in industrial technology from East Carolina University. She was working on a doctoral degree when she was diagnosed with a neurological disease in 2008.

Ms. Weaver helped start the greenway in Greenville and received the 1996 Governor's Volunteer Award for her work with Literacy Volunteers of Pitt County.

Ms. Weaver is survived by her parents; her husband, William Smith; her siblings, Jan Weaver and Nanci Johnson of Columbia and Lynn Weaver of St. Louis; and her children, Jack Brueckner and Claire Brueckner of Greenville, N.C., and their father, Steven Brueckner of Westfield, N.C.

A remembrance will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Green Springs Park on East Fifth Street in Greenville, N.C., and a celebration of her life will follow at Tipsy Teapot, 409 South Evans St., in Greenville.
