LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Marine veteran Karl Skala focuses on mission, task

Thursday, March 28, 2013 | 12:00 p.m. CDT

COLUMBIA — Karl Skala enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps at 18 during the height of the Vietnam War. Throughout his training, he was taught to focus on mission by remaining focused on the task.

Today, Karl remains focused on the mission and the tasks, whether in his neighborhood association, Environment and Energy Commission, Planning and Zoning or the City Council (which he has been involved in for 15 years).

Karl is a progressive thinking about updating development plans and zoning regulations, which include requiring developers to pay for road and sidewalk improvements. He asks for input and encourages involvement.
